The idea of learning

One question that, if you ponder it over, can make you feel the importance of life and everything around us, is what separates us from the flora, fauna and the animal kingdom?

In René Descartes’s famous ‘first principle’ he mentions that, “I think therefore I am”. The human race on the planet is probably the only species that have the capability to ponder over the big questions of life like why we are here? Why should we here? What is the purpose of us being here. The last question is what makes the human race wonders and fears the most because as a human, if you live a life without purpose, your life can go from keeping it together to everything going downhill pretty quickly. Morality helps us in finding the principles of life and helping us build towards a better future

Since we are already on a rocky, hard to survive planet, and pondering over the question of why we are here? Why not make it worth our while. Curiosity is a trait that humans have possessed since time immemorial and it has given us virtually everything that we have around us. Better lifestyle, technology, experiences and so much more came from curiosity. Have you ever taken a step back from everything in life and just thought about what would’ve really happen if Issac Newton just ate the apple without thinking about it too much? Or Albert Einstein died in WW2 or were a farmer or something? Life could’ve been drastically different.

But the bigger question is, how everything came to be? My theory is (Feel free to comment if I am wrong here) Snowball effect. Millennia ago when two apes were sitting on their rocks and were rubbing them together, first they saw sparks, then they felt heat, then BAAAMM and you had fire. The light of the fire burned so brightly in their minds, it made them curious into doing such things repeatedly and do you know what happens when you do things repeatedly? You get better at it, teach it to the next generation and on to the next thing. Slowly and gradually over time, those things among millions of humans created a snowball so big that it made curiosity to learn by doing things a fundamental human nature and every one got swept into it.

Since we started with René Descartes’s ‘First Principle’, He also wondered about the if the foundations of knowledge were not completely solid, anything built upon them would inevitably collapse. He thus decided that if there was reason to doubt the truth of something — no matter how slim the doubt — then it should be discarded as false.⁣ This gave rise to our modern science and research ways were we right a research paper or publish an idea we get reviewed by our peers, who then work on it and try to discard it as false, if experiments passes, well, you have changed the world.

The Idea of learning comes from these fundamental ideas where the curiosity is not killing the cat, but making sure that the cat actually lives a long and happy life with you in your warm bed, sipping coffee or hot chocolate or whatever you have in your hand currently. But I will also leave you here with one big question here and I would like you to think about it for a moment, “What will the world look like if Newton ate the apple and forgot about it?”
